Sabelo Cebekhulu (32) from Ndwedwe, KwaZulu Natal, is a young and ambitious businessman with a vision to expand his poultry farming business to supply major retailers and create job opportunities for the youth. Balancing his busy schedule, Cebekhulu also serves as the Chairperson of Ndwedwe Youth Centre, a role he assumed two months ago, and is actively involved in the NPO Zama Zama Youth and Development. This organisation, run by youth, comprises seven members, including two individuals with disabilities.

Cebekhulu, who has albinism which affects his vision, remains undeterred in his pursuit of success. He recently underwent an eye operation and is preparing for a follow-up in a few months. Reflecting on his condition, he said, “Despite my disability, I am determined to succeed in business.”

Cebekhulu’s poultry farming venture, started in 2023 with the help of his disability grant, has shown promise. However, he faces significant challenges due to limited resources and accessibility in rural areas. “My business is situated in rural areas where the market is present, but we need financial assistance to purchase a vehicle for deliveries and to set up another office to reach our clients. There is land available, but we lack the capital to build. Additionally, I face personal challenges due to my condition, requiring expensive medication and treatment for my eyes,” he explained.

Despite these hurdles, Cebekhulu remains optimistic about the future. “My dream is to expand the business and supply big retail. The first people I will employ are youth. I believe in the potential of young people and want to give back by creating job opportunities for them,” he said.

Cebekhulu’s journey is a testament to his resilience and determination. Reflecting on his experience at a recent two-day session for self-development and networking, he shared, “I came here to learn new information from my peers and to develop myself further. As a young businessman, I believe in the power of networks.”
