  • Integrated Service Delivery Blitz brings a range of government services directly to Turffontein residents.
  • Gauteng MEC for Social Development Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko encourages communities to access available support and development opportunities.
  • Residents benefit from grant applications, food relief, skills development and employment-related services under one roof.

Residents of Turffontein were provided with direct access to a wide range of government services when the Gauteng Department of Social Development, in partnership with the local municipality and other government stakeholders, hosted an Integrated Service Delivery Blitz at Turffontein Primary School in Johannesburg’s Southern Corridor.

The outreach formed part of government’s ongoing commitment to bringing services closer to communities, particularly residents who experience difficulties accessing assistance during normal working hours.

The Service Delivery Blitz brought together various government departments, entities and funded non-profit organisations (NPOs) to provide coordinated services in a single location, enabling residents to access the support they need without travelling long distances.

Community members attended in large numbers and engaged directly with Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Ms Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, who encouraged residents to take full advantage of the services available.

Addressing the gathering, Nkomo-Ralehoko said the Integrated Service Delivery Blitz is an important government intervention aimed at improving access to services for vulnerable communities.

“These outreach programmes enable government to engage directly with communities and ensure that essential services reach people where they live. We are here today to assist residents with grant applications, social development services and other support programmes available through government and its partners,” she said.

The MEC added that government departments and agencies had been brought together to provide a comprehensive package of services. These included the Gauteng Department of Health, the Department of Basic Education, the Department of Employment and Labour, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), and funded NPOs.

Residents were encouraged to visit the various service points to access support such as grant applications, profiling for food assistance, skills development opportunities, employment-related services and assessments for individuals affected by substance abuse.

For many residents, the weekend outreach made a meaningful difference.

One of the beneficiaries, Siya Ndaba, a domestic worker and mother of two, was able to apply for a Child Support Grant and access food relief services during the programme. She explained that her work commitments often prevent her from visiting government offices during the week.

“I am grateful that government brought these services to our community on a weekend. I have been struggling to find time to apply because I work during the week and cannot easily take leave. Today I was able to get assistance for my children without losing a day’s income,” said Ndaba.

The successful outreach demonstrated the value of integrated service delivery in improving access to government programmes and support services.

Through initiatives such as the Service Delivery Blitz, government continues to strengthen its presence in communities while ensuring that services are accessible, responsive and aligned to the needs of residents.
