President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed concern and noted statements made by KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, during a media briefing earlier today.
The President has described the matter as one of grave national security significance that warrants the highest level of attention and intervention.
In a firm response, President Ramaphosa underscored the critical importance of protecting the integrity of the country’s security services and upholding the rule of law. He has appealed to all parties involved to exercise discipline and restraint, warning that the current exchange of accusations and counter-accusations risks eroding public confidence and creating confusion.
The President indicated that further details on the measures to address these developments will be communicated upon his return from the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he is currently engaged with fellow heads of state.
