GOVERNMENT BRINGS VITAL SERVICES TO KWANONGOMA THROUGH ICROP INITIATIVE

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development, Ms Mbali Shinga, alongside the SASSA Regional Executive Manager, Ms Thamo Mzobe, recently spearheaded the Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) in KwaNongoma.

This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to delivering essential services to rural and remote communities, addressing long-standing accessibility challenges. ICROP, a flagship programme of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), aims to bridge service delivery gaps in areas such as Osuthu, where residents often face difficulties in accessing government support. The programme ensures that rural communities are not excluded from critical services, including social grants and support initiatives like school uniform provision.

During the event, the MEC and Ms Mzobe distributed 178 school uniforms to two primary schools in the area. Phemubumuzi Primary School received 66 uniforms, while Bangamaya Primary School was provided with 76. These donations reflect SASSA’s ongoing efforts to ease the financial strain on families in need, ensuring that children from underserved communities have the resources they need to thrive academically.

The outreach also offered an opportunity for residents to register for various social services, including disability grants, child support, and other forms of assistance. SASSA officials were available to guide and assist with applications, helping the people of KwaNongoma access the full spectrum of government services available to them.

This initiative exemplifies the importance of collaboration between government departments in addressing the unique challenges faced by rural communities and improving lives across the province.
