The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced the temporary closure of its Johannesburg Local Office, effective from Monday, 15 Sept 2025, until further notice. The decision follows operational challenges and the suspension of eight officials who were arrested and charged with fraud at the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court.
SASSA CEO, Mr Themba Matlou, stated that the Agency’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption is reaffirmed by the suspensions, underscoring its commitment to accountability and ethical governance. “We want to make sure that everyone is brought to book and they account for their actions. It is unfortunate that this has led to a temporary closure of the office, but we are putting measures in place to ensure that our people are attended to,” he said.
To ensure uninterrupted service delivery, SASSA has introduced alternative arrangements through satellite offices and outreach centres across Johannesburg. Beneficiaries are encouraged to use the following service points:

| Berea / Yeoville / Hillbrow / Braamfontein | Yeoville Recreation Centre | Outreach | 23 Sept; 15 Oct; 19 Nov; 23 Dec 2025 | 08h00 – 15h00 |
SASSA assured the public that back-office teams will continue to process applications, enquiries, and resolve outstanding matters during this period.
