  • The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA)Western Cape has introduced operational measures to manage increased demand and improve service delivery at the Bellville Local Office.
  • An appointment-based system has been reinstated to reduce overnight queues and ensure more orderly assistance for beneficiaries.
  • Community-based interventions, including outreach services and a planned service point in Delft, aim to bring services closer to beneficiaries and ease pressure on the Bellville office.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in the Western Cape has introduced several operational measures to improve service delivery and manage the increased number of beneficiaries visiting the Bellville Local Office.

In recent weeks, the office has experienced a significant rise in client volumes, particularly from beneficiaries seeking assistance with disability grant bookings and medical assessments. In response, SASSA has implemented targeted interventions aimed at improving access to services while ensuring that clients are assisted efficiently and with dignity.

One key measure is the reinstatement of a structured appointment system at the Bellville office. Under this system, clients who cannot be assisted on the same day receive confirmed return appointments. This approach is expected to improve the flow of clients and reduce the need for beneficiaries to queue overnight.

To further reduce pressure at the local office, SASSA officials have also been deployed to several health facilities. These officials assist applicants with disability grant processes immediately after medical assessments, enabling beneficiaries to complete part of their applications closer to where they live.

In addition, the Agency is expanding access points within surrounding communities. A temporary service site in Delft has been identified and is currently awaiting final approval through a memorandum of understanding. Once operational, the site will provide services to beneficiaries living in Delft and nearby areas, helping to ease congestion at the Bellville office.

SASSA has also arranged additional outreach service days in collaboration with local stakeholders to assist beneficiaries who may not have been accommodated during peak periods.

The Agency reiterated that it remains a non-partisan public institution, mandated to administer social assistance to eligible beneficiaries in accordance with the law. While acknowledging the right of individuals and organisations to express their views, SASSA has cautioned against the politicisation of social assistance services or the use of vulnerable beneficiaries to advance political agendas.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to rely on official SASSA communication platforms for accurate information regarding services and operational arrangements.
Despite the increased demand, the Bellville Local Office continues to assist hundreds of clients daily through enquiries, grant applications, document verification and other support services.

SASSA Western Cape has indicated that it will continue to monitor service pressures across the Metro District and introduce additional operational improvements where necessary to ensure that beneficiaries receive timely and dignified assistance.
