North West MEC for Social Development, Basetsana Susanna Dantjie, has expressed her sorrow over the tragic loss of three lives at the hands of a man who was meant to protect them.
Addressing community members who gathered in large numbers at Shaleng village in Taung, Dantjie extended her condolences to the grieving Kale family. The tragedy occurred when 33-year-old Olebogeng Mampe Kale allegedly killed his father, Mosimanegape Kale (74), his mother, Phodisho Kale (68), and his sister, Bonolo Kale (27), with a knobkerrie.
Mampe has been arrested and is scheduled to appear at Kgomotso Periodical Court on 25 November 2024.
“It is painful for parents to raise a child who, once grown, turns into a monster and kills them. This is unacceptable. Take courage in God,” Dantjie consoled the mourners.
She added that a team of social workers had been assigned to provide trauma counselling to the affected children and other family members.
Dantjie also urged officials from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to ensure the provision of full school uniforms for four children ahead of the 2025 academic year.
During her visit, Dantjie, accompanied by Greater Taung local councillor Ikgopoleng Lekoma, Dr Ruth Segommotsi Mompati District Director Otsile Madienyane, and a team of social workers and SASSA officials, presented the bereaved family with social relief in the form of food parcels to assist with the burial service.
She called on the community to continue supporting the family even after the funeral, which will take place on Saturday, 23 November 2024.
