LET THE MUSIC REIGN

- Choirs at the 24/25 financial year Golden Games in Rustenburg, like the rain, brought nourishment and solace to the elders taking part in the dialogues of the opening day.
- The musical festivities brought balance to the earlier presentations on matters afflicting the 60s and over.
- The performance on stage was a capsule of the intentions of the Golden Games: “Embracing vitality: Empowering older persons to thrive in their communities.”
The skies had greyed for over 72 hours, gently nourishing the parched earth with persistent showers.
In a similar fashion the opening day of the 24/25 financial year Golden Games mimicked nature. Following hours of speeches and deliberations, the choirs emerged onto the stage to bring life to the packed Rustenburg Civic Centre in North West.
The musical festivities brought balance to the active ageing activities, which delve in both the esoteric and normalcy of our lives.
Earlier in the day, all provinces had made compelling arguments on matters that afflict those who are 60 years and beyond. Each province had a topic that was presented with executable objectives and time frames.
The music, which contained latent messaging on our varied history and heritage became the highlight of the day, without diluting the prior discussions.
The performance on the stage was a capsule of what is core to the intentions of the Golden Games: “Embracing vitality: Empowering older persons to thrive in their communities.”
The subtlety of the choreographed performance may escape the naked eye, but behind the dance and rhythm lies physical activity akin to aerobic exercise.
The moves to the rhythm should be enough to keep lifestyle diseases at bay because 15 minutes of activity should never be underestimated; the lyrics of the song memorised, sparking mental activity to battle amnesia and Alzheimer diseases.
The diseases that often affect older persons can bring pain and shame to the family, especially when associated with witchcraft. Keeping the elderly active at social clubs will push back, if not eliminate their chances of lifestyle diseases.
The games continue.
Tomorrow, 19 February 2025, those who were cheering the music will take the field in an assortment of games. And, as with the sweet dulcet tones of the music that was the harbinger of the high notes and ululations to come, the games too will reach their crescendo.
One thing for sure, tomorrow it will rain. The question is, will it be showers or goals? Come to Impala Rugby stadium to witness all. Let it rain. The Golden Games reign.
