- Service delivery blitzes take essential government services directly to communities, cutting down on transport costs or lengthy walks to service offices.
- One such blitz was recently held at the Lakeside Estate community hall in Midvaal, Sedibeng.
- The impact was immediate, with 120 community members turning out to make use of the available services.
Government service points are often plagued by long queues driven by the high demand for services, and for individuals living in remote areas, it can mean long walks or expensive transportation just to access the help they need.
To tackle these barriers, the government has launched regular service delivery blitzes, taking essential services directly to the communities they serve.
On Thursday, 20 February 2025, the Gauteng Department of Social Development, in collaboration with role players such as the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), the Department of Employment and Labour, the National Development Agency, and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development, hosted a successful service delivery blitz at the Lakeside Estate community hall in Midvaal, Sedibeng.
The impact was immediate, as 120 community members turned out to use the services.
One of the beneficiaries, Mahadi Nyembe, a 37-year-old unemployed mother of three, shared her gratitude for the convenience of the service delivery blitz.
She came to update her child’s SASSA card and register her one-month-old baby – tasks that would typically require a visit to the SASSA office.
Thanks to the blitz, she was able to access the services she needed right in her community, saving both time and transportation costs.
“I am very grateful for the service I received today,” said Nyembe. “I was able to get fast service in just 20 minutes. I hope the government will continue to deliver these kinds of services to the communities, as we really find them useful and convenient.”
The Gauteng Department of Social Development remains committed to meeting the social needs of its communities, with plans to continue identifying and delivering services through its service delivery brigades.
This initiative ensures that vital services are easily accessible to all, particularly those who might otherwise face barriers to access.
