  • The Department will no longer accept paper-based funding applications or SLAs from NPOs.
  • A new online system will be used to manage claims, funding applications, business plans and payments.
  • Mandatory workshops will be hosted across all five Gauteng corridors to help NPOs transition smoothly to the system.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development is ushering in a new era of digital transformation with the launch of its innovative electronic NPO funding management system, Grantor.
The new system is designed to streamline funding applications, accelerate payment processing, and eliminate administrative delays. This week, the Department will host a series of corridor-based workshops to introduce the system and provide hands-on support to NPOs.
MEC Faith Mazibuko, who is spearheading the initiative, said the platform will bring long-overdue efficiencies to a system that has often been criticised for its slow turnaround times. “We are investing in technology to improve the processing of applications and payments, something which has been a challenge for the Department. With this new online system, we will be able to work faster, more efficiently,” she said.
NPOs will now be required to submit funding applications, business plans, and service level agreements (SLAs) online through the Grantor system. Claims and payment processes will also be digitised. According to the MEC, this leap into digital administration will not only enhance transparency but ensure that support reaches NPOs faster.
The rollout begins in the Southern Corridor on 4 August in Sebokeng, followed by sessions in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, the West Rand, and Tshwane. NPOs are encouraged to attend the mandatory training sessions and are reminded to bring their laptops to actively engage with the new system.
“This is your chance to level up your funding application game and embrace a smarter, smoother way of working,” said MEC Mazibuko.
The Department has committed to providing ongoing technical support during the transition and ensuring no organisation is left behind. By digitising its funding process, Gauteng Social Development is taking a significant step toward modernising public service delivery and improving how it partners with the NPO sector.
