- Local learner Kearabetawe Moyo from Gauteng, South Africa, is looking forward to seeing changes following the Africa Children’s Summit.
- The summit, he says, has given children a platform to have a say in the decisions made about their lives.
- As a social grant recipient, Moyo told other grant recipients they should never be ashamed of the financial assistance.
The Department of Social Development, along with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, conducted interviews with some of the children taking part in the Africa Children’s Summit 2025 to hear about their concerns.
The summit’s purpose is to bring children from across the continent together to discuss matters that affect them.
Kearabetawe Moyo (15) from Gauteng, South Africa was excited to be at the Africa Children’s Summit and hopes to see changes after the summit.
He believes that the second biennial summit, taking place in Johannesburg from 4 – 7 April 2025, has given children a platform to have a say in the decisions made about their lives.
In addition to sharing his views on the summit, Moyo also mentioned that he is a SASSA Child Support Grant recipient, adding that the R560 grant has assisted him and his family in ensuring that all his school needs are well taken care of. With a big smile, he added that thanks to the grant he is able to buy himself toiletries.
He encouraged other SASSA Child Support Grant recipients to never feel ashamed of the assistance that the government provides, as there has never been a day when he has had to go to bed hungry.
