  • MEC Dantjie conducted a week-long unannounced inspection to assess the department’s capacity and efficiency in processing NPO funding applications.
  • She launched the ‘Re Thuse Re Go Thuse’ support programme to help NPOs within the social sector comply with legislation and avoid deregistration.
  • The roadshows have already covered four districts, demonstrating a proactive and province-wide effort to strengthen NPO compliance and service delivery.

North West MEC for Social Development, Basetsana Sussana Dantjie, conducted an office walkabout to evaluate the department’s readiness to process Non-Profit Organization (NPO) funding applications efficiently and promptly.
The walkabout was intended to uncover and resolve any bottlenecks hindering the timely validation of NPO business plans.
“Our officials have been working diligently to validate NPO business plans and assess their compliance with the NPO Act. While civil society organisations play a vital role in transforming lives, many struggle with meeting legal requirements,” said MEC Dantjie. “Some are non-compliant and risk deregistration, which would result in a loss of financial support from funders.”
Officials noted that the MEC’s surprise visit was unprecedented, marking the first time a political head has observed their daily operations directly. “It was more than a meet-and-greet,” an official stated.
In support of struggling NPOs, MEC Dantjie launched a flagship initiative, Re Thuse Re Go Thuse (“Help us to help you”), aimed at assisting social sector NPOs in achieving full compliance with the NPO Act. The programme reflects her commitment to building a strong and effective NPO sector that can deliver essential community services.
The Re Thuse Re Go Thuse roadshows—conducted in partnership with the National Lottery Commission, South African Revenue Service (SARS), Provincial Treasury, National Development Agency, national Department of Social Development, and other sister departments—have already reached NPOs in the Ngaka Modiri Molema, Bojanala, Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, and Dr Kenneth Kaunda districts.
