MEC DANTJIE HANDS OVER SCHOOL UNIFORMS TO LEARNERS

• Learners at the Dingateng Primary School in the North West Province have received school uniforms from the provincial MEC for Social Development, Basetsana Sussana Dantjie.
• Over the next week, social workers will identify needy learners and their families in the area so they can receive social support.
• The MEC is determined to bring social services closer to the people through the Re thuse re go thuse programme.

Seventy learners at the Dingateng Primary School in the Ratlou local municipality received school uniforms on Wednesday, 20 August 2025.

The uniforms were handed out during an outreach programme to the school by the North West Social Development MEC, Basetsana Sussana Dantjie, who was joined by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

The children who received the outfits all face undue hardship, as their parents are unable to afford uniforms and other essential items.

The learners, both male and female, received two sets of shoes, socks, trousers, vests, sport shirts, school bags, tunics, and tracksuits, valued at more than R4 000 per learner.

Describing the intervention, Dantjie said the government has developed programmes to provide for the needs of learners and adults alike.

Dantjie called on officials to protect the children’s right to education and ensure that they have birth certificates and identity documents.

Of the 235 registered learners, 25 of them do not have birth certificates or identity documents. About 208 learners receive social grants.

“In the next seven days, our social workers will profile needy learners and their families in this area.

“Based on their home circumstances report, we will intervene with our social relief of distress and Re thuse re go thuse programmes, which include the provision of food parcels, school uniforms, sanitary towels and other amenities to our communities,” Dantjie told parents and teachers who attended the handover ceremony in the school hall.

Dantjie vowed to bring her Re thuse re go thuse flagship to needy communities so that they can access government services at their doorsteps.
