The third webinar session, looking at “Advancing social security: Exploring pathways to resilience post Covid-19”, takes place on Thursday, 21 August 2025.
The webinar, hosted by the Department of Social Development, in partnership with the Human Sciences Research Council, looks at the financial foundations for social security.
The series, which presents papers from the Social Security Review Vol. 2: Social Security in the Time of Covid-19 (2024), offers social security practitioners insights on strengthening financial resilience and building sustainable social security systems in the post-pandemic context.
Thursday’s session will feature discussions on:
• Financing and innovation in social security amidst Covid-19: Impacts and long-term considerations; and
• Covid-19 triggers growing support for a basic income grant in South Africa.
The platform brings together researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to advance dialogue on long-term, inclusive, and resilient social protection for South Africans.
