DEPUTY MINISTER TO VISIT AL-FIDAA FOUNDATION IN EASTERN CAPE

- Deputy Minister of Social Development Ganief Hendricks will interact with social grant beneficiaries on 8 February 2025 to assess the impact of community development projects run by the Al-Fidaa Foundation.
- The foundation, based in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, offers a range of programmes including vocational training, psychosocial support and empowerment services for survivors of gender-based violence.
- The visit will be followed by a fund-raising dinner to enable the foundation to scale up its current projects.
Deputy Minister of Social Development Ganief Hendricks will be visiting the Al-Fidaa Foundation in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, on Saturday 8 February 2025 as part of the Department of Social Development’s strategy to link social grant beneficiaries to sustainable livelihood initiatives.
Al-Fidaa Foundation is a non-profit organisation that runs a number of community development projects, including vocational training in computer literacy, baking, culinary, and sewing, as well as psychosocial support and empowerment services for survivors of gender-based violence.
During the visit the deputy minister will interact with the beneficiaries to assess the impact of the projects and areas of collaboration to contribute to the priorities of the Medium-Term Development Plan outlined by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the 2025 State of the Nation Address, with specific focus on skills, entrepreneurship and creation of job opportunities for young people on social grants.
The visit will culminate in a gala dinner to raise funds to enable Al-Fidaa Foundation to scale up its current projects across South Africa.
