THABANG KENNETH MAJORO: FROM YOUTH PIONEER TO CHAMPIONING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN THE FREE STATE

With over 14 years of dedicated public service, Thabang Kenneth Majoro has emerged as a key driver of grassroots development in the Free State Province. As an Assistant Community Development Practitioner with the Department of Social Development, Majoro has been instrumental in transforming communities, empowering nonprofits, and creating opportunities for youth.

Majoro’s career began in 2008 through the Masupatsela Youth Pioneer Programme which employed 347 young people of whom 209 pursued community development as a career of choice.

What started as an internship soon became a lifelong calling. By 2011, he had secured a permanent role in community development, bringing with him a deep passion for social impact.

“My passion has always been to create tangible change at the community level,” he reflects.

Throughout his tenure, Majoro has led impactful projects across the Lejweleputswa District, helping community-based organizations access over R1.5 million in funding. His development of a resource mobilization toolkit has become a critical tool for nonprofits striving for sustainability. He has also launched several youth-focused initiatives, including the 2024 Youth Dialogue in Wesselsbron, which connected over 150 young people with government and development agencies.

Education has played a central role in Majoro’s professional growth. He holds qualifications in Community Development, Public Administration, and General Management, with training from institutions including Goldfields TVET College, the Free State Training and Development Institute, and the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science. His additional certifications span project management, occupational health and safety, conflict resolution, and more.

Majoro is spearheading development efforts in Wesselsbron and Bothaville in the Lejweleputswa district under the Nala Local Municipality. His recent programs include a women’s dialogue on economic empowerment and gender-based violence and a financial literacy campaign that reached over 850 residents. He also champions knowledge transfer through intergenerational dialogue with retired professionals.

Never one to stand still, Majoro continues to evolve his skill set—recently completing training in cybersecurity and Python programming, and is now preparing to study Generative AI for Project Managers.

Beyond his government role, Majoro is an Executive Committee Member of the South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) Young Professionals, where he leads the Student, Learning and Development Portfolio.

His contributions have earned him a nomination for the FREE SA Young Leaders Awards 2025 in the Politics & Government category—an acknowledgment of his enduring impact in public service.
