South Africa remains committed to building a mutually beneficial relationship with the United States of America.

This statement was issued by the Presidency in the wake of the expulsion from the US of South Africa’s ambassador, Ebrahim Rasool.

The Presidency has called the action “regrettable”.

On Friday, 14 March 2025, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on social media platform X that Rasool “is no longer welcome in our great country”.

The Presidency has maintained a measured tone on the issue, urging all relevant and impacted stakeholders to maintain the established diplomatic decorum in their engagement with the matter.
