The Northern Cape MEC for Social Development, Ms Mase Manopole, will lead two Older Persons Appreciation Functions in Kuruman and Postmasburg this Thursday, 15 October 2026. The celebrations form part of the department’s Social Development Month activities.

The functions will be held under the theme “Strengthening Families Through Partnerships”. They aim to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions that older persons make to their families and communities, while promoting their dignity, protection, rights and well-being.

The gatherings will also reaffirm government’s commitment to promoting healthy ageing, preventing the abuse and neglect of older persons, and strengthening family and community support systems. This work is guided by the Older Persons Act, 2006 (Act No. 13 of 2006), which protects the rights of older persons and promotes their well-being.

During the visits, MEC Manopole will engage directly with older persons in both towns. She will acknowledge their lifelong contributions and their resilience, as well as the important role they play in preserving community values and strengthening social cohesion.

Social Development Month is observed every October. It highlights the department’s programmes and its partnerships with communities to build stronger, more caring families.
