  • The Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD) conducted a service blitz in Ivory Park Extension 3, bringing crucial support to vulnerable groups, including the homeless, substance users, and families in distress.
  • In collaboration with other government departments, Community Policing Forums (CPFs), and Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs), the initiative provided access to rehabilitation services, skills development, and resources for community safety and well-being.
  • This targeted effort is part of the Gauteng Government’s broader commitment to delivering social services directly to areas in need, addressing local challenges, and fostering resilience within communities.

On Wednesday, the Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD) brought essential services directly to the residents of Ivory Park Extension 3 at Malatjie Park.

Through a coordinated service blitz, the department and its partners provided targeted assistance to vulnerable groups, including children living and working on the streets, struggling families, the homeless, substance users, and those seeking access to social work services. This approach aligns with GDSD’s mission to remove barriers to social support and address the specific challenges faced by communities at a local level.

At the event, 65-year-old resident Mavis Sechele expressed gratitude after learning that the son of her late neighbour would receive help from GDSD social workers to enter a rehabilitation facility. Reflecting on his struggles, she shared, “Since his mother passed away four years ago, he has faced tough times, battling unemployment and eventually falling into drug addiction. Although he isn’t here today, I trust he’ll take this opportunity to turn his life around.”

The initiative was supported by other government departments, including Health and SAPS, working alongside Community Policing Forums (CPFs) and Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) specialising in substance abuse support, skills development, and elder care. These partnerships provided comprehensive assistance to community members, offering pathways to rehabilitation, personal growth, and safety resources.

This effort forms part of the Gauteng Government’s ongoing commitment to delivering social services to areas most in need, fostering resilience and empowerment across the province.
