ACTIVE AGEING PROGRAMME BRINGS JOY TO ELDERLY FROM FREE STATE

- Team members from the Free State are looking forward to taking part in the 19th National Active Ageing Programme happening in Rustenburg, North West.
- The event, taking place from 18 – 20 February 2025, brings together elderly individuals from all provinces to promote physical fitness among persons aged 60 years and above.
- Ntate Mabote from Botshabelo is looking forward to the games and is determined to win in his events, while Mme Sindi Mvambi from Mangaung is excited to meet other senior citizens from across the country.
Senior citizens from the Free State are looking forward to taking part in the 19th National Active Ageing Programme taking place in Rustenburg, North West, from 18 – 20 February 2025.
The event brings together elderly individuals from all provinces, with the primary objective of promoting physical fitness among persons aged 60 years and above.
Ntate Mabote, a participant from Botshabelo, expressed his enthusiasm for the programme: “I am very happy and looking forward to this trip and the games. I’m determined to win the competitions, and I’ve been exercising three days a week since January to get ready.”
Mme Sindi Mvambi, from the Peretshweu Senior Citizen Club in Mangaung, echoed the sentiments of many, saying: “We feel so proud, as elders, that our government is taking care of us. We are the beneficiaries of this programme and are truly excited.
“It’s wonderful to represent the Free State province as elders.”
When asked about her expectations, Mvambi added: “We’re expecting to have fair competition, come back victorious, and have fun while getting to know others.”
She is excited to meet other senior citizens from the different provinces.
“We’ve been going to the gym every day since January last year, and it’s my first time attending the games,” Mvambi added.
The Active Ageing Programme is a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting and empowering the elderly, providing them with an opportunity to stay active and engaged.
