After a successful week-long pre-SONA outreach programme, the Minister of Social Development, Ms. Lindiwe Zulu, will conduct a site visit on Thursday, 8th February, at the Salesian Institute Youth Projects in Greenpoint, Cape Town.
The Salesian Institute Youth Projects, funded by the Department of Social Development through its agency, the National Development Agency (NDA), offers innovative programmes aimed at empowering and educating the youth and women to increase their employment opportunities.
Funding allocated by the NDA to the Salesian Institute Youth Projects supported courses for unemployed women, facilitating their transition from manual hand sewing to machine sewing. Fifteen students, ten of whom are now employed in the textile industry in Cape Town, successfully graduated from the programme last year. They received a Sewing Business start-up Kit, including fabric, sewing machines, and equipment.
During her visit, the Minister will engage with the Salesian Institute Youth Projects leadership to discuss the significant impact of this project on society.
