  • Kabi’s goal is to equip individuals with the confidence and skills to protect themselves and regain their sense of security.

For the past two decades, Laurenty Kabi has been a dedicated force for positive change in the Free State community.

As a social auxiliary worker at the Tshepong Victim Empowerment Programme under the Free State Department of Social Development, he has committed his career to helping vulnerable individuals, particularly victims of domestic violence and youth in conflict with the law, find hope, empowerment, and a path forward.

“I love helping people and I am very passionate about my work,” Kabi says.

Before joining the Tshepong Victim Empowerment Programme, Kabi spent years working with children in conflict with the law, playing a crucial role in crime prevention and rehabilitation.

His work was guided by the Child Justice Act, ensuring that young offenders were given a second chance through rehabilitation rather than punishment.

His approach to his work not only addresses crime at its roots but also fostered safer communities.

Committed to making a difference

Now at the Tshepong Victim Empowerment Programme, Kabi and his team focus on supporting victims of domestic violence.

Through counselling, awareness campaigns, and intervention programs, they strive to restore dignity and confidence in those who have experienced abuse. The programme aligns with presidential priorities on victim empowerment, making his work even more impactful.

Kabi takes pride in being task-oriented and deeply committed to his role.

His team at the Tshepong Victim Empowerment Programme fosters a healthy working environment, ensuring that every victim who walks through their doors feels valued and supported.

Beyond his professional role, Kabi extends his influence in innovative ways.

He uses TikTok as a platform for motivational speaking, inspiring young people to make positive choices. His ability to connect with the youth through social media is a testament to his adaptability and passion for community upliftment.

Kabi is not just a dedicated social worker; he is also a talented musician who has been part of multiple choirs throughout his life. His love for singing serves as both a personal passion and a way to uplift others.

In addition, he practices martial arts, through the Japan Karate Association, which he channels into teaching self-defence lessons to victims of gender-based violence and femicide.

His goal is to equip individuals with the confidence and skills to protect themselves and regain their sense of security.

Kabi is more than just an employee, he is a champion of change in the Mangaung Metro and beyond.

Whether through his professional work at the Tshepong Victim Empowerment Programme, his motivational videos, or his self-defence classes, he continuously seeks ways to uplift and empower his community. His story is an inspiration, proving that passion, dedication, and a heart for service can create a real, lasting impact.
