  • 1,200 suspects and 75 undocumented immigrants arrested during a provincial service delivery blitz in Soshanguve.
  • Premier Lesufi announced enhanced safety measures, including CCTV installations, and pledged similar operations in other high-risk areas.
  • MEC Mazibuko emphasised accountability in NPO programmes, announcing plans for a provincial beneficiary register to ensure efficient use of resources.

The Gauteng Provincial Integrated Service Delivery Operations concluded in Soshanguve, Northern Corridor, marking a significant step in government’s commitment to improving safety and service delivery. The operation, supported by multiple agencies, resulted in the arrest of 1,200 suspects and the detention of 75 undocumented immigrants.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi, addressing residents at Giant Stadium, commended the operation’s success.

“This morning alone, we apprehended approximately 1,200 suspects and 75 undocumented immigrants through joint law enforcement efforts,” he said. “Crime requires collective action. We mobilised metro police across municipalities and installed 28 CCTV cameras in Tshwane to strengthen community safety.”

The Premier further announced that similar operations will be extended to Sunnyside, Hillbrow, and other high-density areas in the province.

In parallel with the enforcement drive, Gauteng Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko visited the Lesedi La Batho Skills Development Centre, an NPO funded by the Department. She encouraged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunities provided.

“Work diligently, because we monitor these NPOs on their performance,” she emphasised. “A provincial register will soon be introduced to track beneficiaries and prevent duplication. With limited government resources, we must ensure support reaches those who need it most.”

The operation demonstrated the value of integrated approaches, combining law enforcement with social development interventions to build safer and more resilient communities in Gauteng.
