• The event, themed “Ubuntu Heritage Experience”, brought the community together to honour Heritage Day while promoting socio-economic development and women’s empowerment.

Today, the Department of Social Development, in collaboration with KHANYA Community Rising Power, hosted a vibrant Women’s Socio-Economic Programme at The Bat Centre in Durban. This programme featureda captivating fashion show, showcasing garments crafted by women from the organisation. The programme also featured an array of exhibitions showcasing intricate beadwork, crafts, and embroidered garments. Guests also enjoyed food tastings and vibrant stalls displaying an assortment of products.

A significant highlight of the day was the official launch of KHANYA Community Rising Power’s coffee shop, conveniently located within the vicinity of The Bat Centre. The launch was complemented by insightful presentations from the eThekwini Municipality’s Social and Community Development unit, focusing on grants-in-aid, and from the business support unit, which provides crucial financial assistance to emerging businesses and cooperatives, ultimately supporting the growth of small enterprises.

The programme was held under the theme “Ubuntu Heritage Experience,” celebrating Heritage Day, which falls on September 24th. This programme aimed to promote socio-economic development, empowerment, and celebration of heritage, bringing the community together in a spirit of ubuntu.
