WENTWORTH YOUTH CENTRE SHOWCASES SKILLS OF 60 EMERGING GRADUATES

On December 5th, the Wentworth Youth Centre hosted a Summative Assessment and Skills Showcase for sixty (60) young individuals approaching the completion of a six-month skills development program. Throughout this period, participants engaged in structured training and mentorship across three specialised disciplines: electrical work, assistant chef training, and garment manufacturing. The initiative is designed to enhance youth employability and facilitate access to sustainable income opportunities.
During the showcase, participants demonstrated the practical skills they acquired throughout the programme, allowing assessors and stakeholders to observe their progress, competence, and readiness for the labour market. eThekwini TVET College conducted the final assessments as part of the formal evaluation and certification process.
The proceedings were officiated by Ms Fezile Luthuli, Chief District Director for the eThekwini Cluster under the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development. In her remarks, Ms Luthuli commended the participants for their commitment and encouraged them to continue accessing psychosocial and other support services offered by the Department. She noted that, despite socio-economic challenges, the programme equips participants with skills for lasting personal and professional growth.
The gathering also drew attendance from the local councillor, representatives from the National Youth Development Agency, and officials from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development.
