Two hundred and fifty (250) Social Development beneficiaries, who excelled in their Matric exams in 2023, are preparing to take the next step in their academic journeys. Led by Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, Ms. Mbali Hlophe, these students from various backgrounds, including foster care programs and government-funded child and youth care centers (CYCCs), will be celebrated in a special send-off ceremony on Thursday, 1st February 2024.

The event not only honours their academic achievements but also aims to equip them with gadgets to support their post-matric education and studies. These students, who have overcome challenges and worked diligently to succeed, represent the resilience and determination of Gauteng’s youth.

The social development sector has played a crucial role in providing support and opportunities to orphaned and vulnerable children, including those in foster homes and CYCCs. Despite facing adversity, many of these students sat for their Grade 12 National Senior Certificate exams in 2023 and emerged victorious.

MEC Mbali Hlophe recognises the dedication and hard work of these students as they embark on the next phase of their educational journey. As they transition to higher education institutions, the gadgets provided will serve as tools to facilitate their learning and pave the way for future success.

The ceremony not only celebrates the individual achievements of these students but also highlights the importance of investing in education and empowering youth to reach their full potential. As they pursue their dreams and aspirations, these students embody the promise of a brighter future for Gauteng and beyond.
