GAUTENG SHOWCASES INNOVATIVE SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK PROGRAMME IN MPUMALANGA

• The National Integrated School Health Programme (ISHP) Workshop in Mpumalanga brought together social development, health, and education professionals to strengthen the delivery of psychosocial and health services in schools.
• Gauteng’s Northern Corridor Educational District Model received national recognition for its innovative and effective approach to learner support.
• Provincial ISHP committees are being established to implement revised policies, ensuring that all learners benefit from integrated and holistic support services.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development’s School Social Work Programme took centre stage at the National Department of Social Development (NDSD) Integrated School Health Programme (ISHP) Workshop, held over two days in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
Hosted by the National Department of Social Development in collaboration with the Departments of Health and Basic Education, the workshop highlighted efforts to promote holistic learner well-being through the ISHP. This dynamic initiative is transforming how health and psychosocial services are delivered in schools, ensuring that learners thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
The Department confirmed ISHP’s commitment to strengthening intersectoral alliances, refining policy implementation, and expanding service delivery across provinces. The Gauteng team proudly showcased its School Social Work Programme, with the Northern Corridor’s Educational District Model earning national recognition for its innovative and effective approach to learner support.
As ISHP continues to evolve, provincial committees are being established to operationalise the revised policy, ensuring that every learner has access to quality, integrated psychosocial and health support.
Sandra Madella, social work manager, expressed pride in Gauteng’s contribution.
