FROM MINER TO CHAIRPERSON: NURTURING SPORTING EXCELLENCE IN THE GOLDEN GAMES

- Mr Sabata Samson “German” Ditshoane, hailing from Thaba Nchu, Free State, transitioned from working in the mines to establishing his own Athletics Forum in Thabong Township, showcasing his commitment to sports development.
- Having ascended from participating in the Golden Games to serving as the National Technical Director Chairperson since 2016, Ntate Ditshoane emphasises the need for equitable resource allocation and participant development between the provincial DSD and Department of Sports to enhance Free State’s performance.
- Recognising the progress of Limpopo and North West provinces, Ntate Ditshoane underscores the importance of collective efforts in elevating sporting standards and fostering overall excellence in the Golden Games.
Mr. Sabata Samson “German” Ditshoane (62) hails originally from Thaba Nchu in the Free State Province. Formerly employed at Steyn 2 Mine in Welkom, he later settled in Welkom with his family. Following his retrenchment from the mines, he established an Athletics Forum in Thabong Township and subsequently joined the Golden Games, eventually ascending to the role of Free State Province Technical Director. Since 2016, he has served as the National Technical Director Chairperson.
As the National Technical Director Chairperson, Mr Ditshoane commends the overall performance across all sporting codes and the preparation exhibited by participants for the games. He particularly admires the progress of Limpopo Province since 2018 and hopes to see a similar improvement in his native Free State province. Additionally, he acknowledges the enhanced performance of the North West Province.
Mr Ditshoane believes that the Free State Province can enhance its performance through equitable resource allocation and participant development, urging the provincial Department of Social Development (DSD) and the Department of Sports to share responsibilities equally.
