DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT TAKES SERVICES TO THE PEOPLE
- The Department of Social Development, along with SASSA and NDA, hosted an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme and NPO engagement session in Grassland, Bloemfontein.
- 83 social workers, who had been serving on a contract basis since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, were permanently appointed from all 5 Districts.
- Acting MEC Thabo Meeko highlighted the importance of bolstering Departmental capacity to deliver essential services in vulnerable communities of the Free State Province and emphasized collaborative efforts with civil society organisations to combat prevalent social issues.
Today, the Department of Social Development and its entities SASSA and NDA held an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme and an NPO engagement session in Grassland, Bloemfontein.
The day also saw the permanent appointment of 83 social workers from all 5 Districts who have been serving the Department on a contract basis since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Acting MEC Thabo Meeko explained the importance of building capacity within the Department to ensure that adequate services are being rendered in vulnerable communities of the Free State Province. The MEC also said that the appointment of social workers and the services done in partnership with civil society organisations will assist the department in fighting the scourge of social ills plaguing individuals, families and communities.
The Department of Social Development and the NPOs rendering social services have prevention and intervention programs in place to create better communities.
