INSPIRING SENIORS: MR ZULU’S ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE GOLDEN GAMES
By Trevor Khuzwayo
At the ongoing Active Ageing Golden Games in Mandeni, 63-year-old Mr Mzwandile Zulu, a grandfather of three from the King Cetshwayo District, is participating with enthusiasm. With retirement just two years away, Mr Zulu is looking forward to this new chapter of his life, while remaining active and engaged in his community. The games, which will conclude on Sunday, 6th October, have been a source of excitement for him.
This marks Mr Zulu’s third consecutive year participating in the Golden Games, and he firmly believes in the importance of staying active. “These games inspire us to stay healthy and fit, and they give us an opportunity to connect with others,” he said. He was particularly moved by the message from KwaZulu-Natal’s MEC for Social Development, Mbali Shinga, who emphasised the significance of physical activity for older citizens. “Her words about our dignity and capabilities really resonated with me,” he added.
The event not only promotes fitness but also offers a platform for building friendships and enhancing mental well-being among older adults.
