At the recent Vaal City Marathon, department officials shared their personal experiences about how participating in marathons has enhanced their physical and mental well-being. Here’s what some of them had to say:
Nthabiseng Nkitseng, Social Worker, Houtkop, Southern Corridor.
“It was a great race — I had fun and took the opportunity to meet new people. Being on the road benefits my health, and I hardly ever get sick. With the nature of my work, staying fit keeps me at my best, both physically and mentally.”
Monica Zwane, Administration Officer, HRA, Head Office.
“I took up running for health reasons. I used to suffer from body pains and knee problems, but since I started, I haven’t looked back. Now, I’m always looking forward to the next race!”
Thoko Zwane, Social Worker, Evaton Service Point, Southern Corridor.
“I began my training regime last year after joining the Department’s Athletic Club, and I’m grateful for the support from the team. We’re like a family. I encourage my colleagues to join because it’s hard to stay motivated alone.”
Jan Sebelebele, Asset Officer, Houtkop, Southern Corridor.
“I started running marathons last year with a 10 km race, and now I’ve completed a 21 km run. My ultimate goal is to run the Comrades Marathon. If you get the chance, join the Department’s Athletic Club — I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”
Nhlulelo Hlatshwayo, Supply Chain Clerk, Houtkop, Southern Corridor.
“If you need a break from a busy schedule and want to improve your mental and general health, join the Department’s Athletic Club. It’s also a great way to meet new people and network.”
